Belted Puffy Jacket

Although my past foray into fake fur wasn’t exactly a success (hello, Woolly mammoth…) this jacket was too warm and comfy to pass up! Plus, I love how the belt makes it more figure flattering. Remember, with puffy jackets, the trick is to look for more fitted ones or ones that tuck in at the waist so you don’t look like a marshmallow 🙂

I’ll keep it short and sweet today because it is the Weekeeeeennnnddd Baaaabbbyyy (Anyone else miss hearing that on Gareth Cliff’s show??) I can’t help but add a ridiculously long “Baaaabbbbbyyyy!” whenever someone says, “It’s the weekend.”

Have a wonderful weekend whatever you’re doing 🙂

Winter Comforts

I am all about comfort when it gets colder – fleece pajamas, woolly slippers, delicious mugs of Hot Chocolate, steaming hot baths, and candles with warm scents like cinnamon and pine – I do it all. That comfort extends to my Winter wardrobe too – if it’s woolly, fluffy or an oversized knit, then it is probably in my cupboard 🙂

How do you spoil yourself in Winter? We have a tradition in my family. Every year, my mom always buys us fleece pajamas from Woolworths. Yes I am almost 30 and have been married for nearly 4 years, but I still get pajamas from my mom once a year and I am not ashamed to admit it 🙂

Winter skirt

How was everyone’s weekend? Football Fever is still going strong in our household so basically my weekend was a blur of men running around on a green field 🙂

After a weekend of casual clothes and no make-up, it’s nice to wear something a little girly – a skirt. In Winter it is easy to shun skirts and dresses in favor of jeans and long pants, but I love the look of boots with a skirt – it is just so feminine and pretty. I got this skirt from YDE years ago and although I swelter in it if I am stupid enough to try wear it in summer (because of the thicker material), I revive it excitedly every winter. The thick material is perfect for cold days and high boots.

This is a super soft look, but if it is too girly for you, you could add a leather jacket and black boots to give it more of an edge.Skirt and boots

My neglected white coat

Hi, My name is Kylie and I am scared of wearing white. Okay, not really, but is anyone else absolutely paranoid about wearing an expensive white item of clothing?? I am not a super messy person – I don’t drop my food on my shirt or get very dirty – but I do have dogs. And most of my family have dogs. And they all love to jump up on you to greet you (usually after walking in mud or some sort of dirt that you have to sniff suspiciously) and leave behind their hair.

D bought me this beautiful white coat a few years ago and although I love it, this is probably only the 3rd time I’ve worn it. Terrible I know – hence the title of my post because even though it is beloved, it is neglected. On Father’s Day, however, I decided to be a daredevil and wear it – dirty dogs be damned 🙂

Do you have any item of clothing or jewelry or handbag that you love but are always a bit hesitant to wear or am I the only Nervous Nellie??

My no-effort required outfit

I have been sick for the past week and it has not been a pretty sight. The last few days have been spent in bed with no make-up on, layered up like an Eskimo because I have flu and our house is freezing. For some inexplicable reason D and I have no heater (or apparently the inclination to buy one either, because at least twice a day we comment to one another how we really need to get one but, alas, still no heater …).

Although I took  a couple days off work to try get better, I had to go back eventually. On days where I feel sick, or just don’t feel like putting in any effort, my military jacket is my go-to “No effort required” outfit. It requires minimal fuss, is super comfy and is one of those pieces that is just really easy to wear and adds an extra element to an outfit that otherwise might look a bit plain. My favorite way to wear it is with a striped top and a chunky necklace as seen in the photos.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Sunshine yellow and stripes

Happy Youth Day to all the South Africans who read this blog. Hope you are having a wonderful day off 🙂

The title of this post is somewhat wishful thinking as there is not a whole lot of sunshine around here right now, but last night  I came across these photos that I took a few weeks ago and forgot to post. No time like the present, although I am kind of out of season here, hopefully it will remind all of you who are bundled up in heavy coats and woolly socks that in just a few short months we will shed our numerous layers and once again wear a normal amount of clothes 🙂

So, although it’s definitely not an outfit I will be wearing again soon (unless the goosebump look is in) this is one of my favorite blazers to wear because it always makes me think of sunshine. (Oh the irony … ) I love pairing it with a more relaxed top to offset the fact that it is a pretty prim jacket. Plus it gives me more options to wear it instead of just at work.

What’s one color that always makes you happy?

White Blazer

I am a huge fan of blazers. I have several in different colors and am always looking to expand my collection. Why the obsession with them? Because they are so versatile! You can literally wear a blazer over anything – jeans and a graphic T-shirt, a dress, even cargo pants or cute shorts and you instantly look more put together and polished.

This black and white blazer is no exception. I usually reserve it for date nights with D and wear it with a pretty top, but it’s also fun to wear it with a fun shirt and glam up the standard Jeans and T-shirt look.

What’s one item of clothing you can never get enough of? Besides my blazers, I am always looking for a new scarf.

What is everyone up to this weekend? D and I will be glued to our TV watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Football fever has definitely struck our household – anyone else??

Statement coat

I love colorful coats! In Winter, people tend to hibernate their bright colors and wear a lot of gray, brown and black. While those colors are fabulous for boots, it can get kind of depressing if you look like that all winter. So I love adding bright pops of color into my winter wardrobe. I love this green coat from Zara because it’s fun, bright and makes me happy while keeping me warm.

If you aren’t really the kind of girl who wants to wear a jacket that practically screams “Look at me!” you can also wear a brightly colored scarf, handbag or even nail polish or lipstick to add some color into a gray day.

How do you like to add color on dreary winter days?

Puffy jackets and marshmallows

It’s officially winter here, with the last few burnished leaves of Autumn falling from trees and covering the ground in an orange-red carpet. It’s still early enough in Winter to have green grass, so it feels strangely festive and the cold bite in the air makes me think of Glühwein and cozy socks.

In winter, besides for wonderfully thick coats, I love my puffy jackets. If you are worried about looking like a marshmallow and fear being dunked in someone’s hot chocolate, opt for a slightly more subdued level of “puff” 🙂 I love this Zara jacket because it is puffy but still gives me shape and looks sophisticated enough to wear to work. Plus it is incredibly soft and warm!

Whatever weather you are experiencing today, I hope it puts you in a good mood as you start the weekend! It is absolutely freezing today so as soon as I leave work, I plan on burrowing under mountains of duvets on the couch in front of the TV with Hot Chocolate on tap courtesy of D (If I can convince him to be my Hot Chocolate slave of course) 🙂

Boston Terrier t-shirt? Yes please

As some of you know, D and I have 2 little Boston Terriers who we love. They are the cutest, noisiest, most adorable dogs and they make us laugh every day with their weird antics. Although I love my dogs, I don’t really feel the need to advertise them. Until this shirt, of course 😉 My mom and sister saw this at Edgars, thought of me, and got it for me. (Now if only some Hunter boots made them think of me … )

Bogart and Daisy gave it their lick of approval and D and I think the one in the middle definitely looks like Bogart 😉 Sometimes it’s fun to wear something slightly frivolous and indulgent and not at all sophisticated – Whatever gets you through the week!
